As a holiday home for a family of six well-traveled and unique individuals who like to entertain friends and family, the apartment has ben conceived as a flexible entity. The brief was to create a practical living arrangement where everyone is included. After reorganising the layout of the apartment, each family member can withdraw from the hustle and bustle within their own personal space. During the shared pleasures of life, the family and their friends are brought together in the kitchen, living room and outside space surrounding the apartment.
From every space there is a direct outlook towards either the North Sea or the green Dutch countryside. Natural daylight floods the apartment and makes the applied materials come to life. Although a soft material palette, it gans strength in its expressive natural textures. Referring to the local coastal environment, materials such as intensive sandblasted oak, cross cut pietra di medici , a hand woven rug have been applied.
A white onyx backdrop in the bar reflects the moody clouded northern sky. Indirect lighting is applied behind the made to measure furniture for entertaining purposes. When the sun sets, the lighting can be adapted according to the mood.
